Bayer MaterialScience offers plastic films for today´s wound management.

Bomlitz, October 2014 – Today's wound management focuses on the patient's well-being, promoting fast healing and pain relief. Bayer MaterialScience supports this development with plastic films for premium wound dressings that protect wounds against environmental influences and promote the healing process by maintaining a moist wound microclimate and high breathability. These wound dressings are highly flexible and feel like a second skin. In addition, the matte surface gives them good haptic properties and can even be printed.

These Platilon® brand specialty films additionally can be used in surgical applications. During surgery, the operating field usually is illuminated by very bright light. To avoid reflections, surgical drapes are made of Platilon® films with a matte surface. Surgeons also value the reliable adhesive anchors, which enable the film to be removed easily without leaving behind any residue. Platilon® surgical films are skin-friendly, elastic and mold well to a patient's body.

Transparent packaging for prosthetics
Specifically developed for this application, Bayfol® UX 502 composite film is used to make protective packaging for orthopedic prosthetics and implants. This “2-in-1” film is characterized by its extraordinary rupture strength, abrasion resistance and impact resistance. The easy thermoformability and good sealing properties are additional advantages in the manufacture of customized protective packaging.

Embedding sensitive electronics
Platilon® films also are used in the field of diagnostics. Sensitive electronics can be directly embedded in these highly flexible materials using efficient roll-to-roll production technology. In the subsequent processing step, the Platilon® embedding film can be effectively bonded to additional layers made of a variety of materials, such as plastic or glass.
